Albany, NY - The Hofstra University men's soccer team spotted Albany three first half goals as the Great Danes picked up a 4-1 victory over the Pride Tuesday night at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
Matthew Vowinkel had the lone goal for the Pride.
Albany moved to 5-4-1 on the season with the win, while Hofstra slipped to 5-6 overall with its second consecutive loss.
Niklas Roessler put Albany on the board at 12:42 of the first half as he corralled a clear attempt in front of the goal and put a shot past Hofstra keeper
Alex Dudley, who had just gotten to his feet after making a save on a previous shot. Austin DaSilva made it 2-0 at 22:23 with a right-footed blast from the left side of the box. Hofstra would have a bit of a miscommunication on the third goal as a Pride defender sent a pass back to Dudley from 30-yards out that was off target and went in the net for an own goal at 27:17.
The Pride scored at 62:47 when Vowinkel converted a penalty kick following an Albany foul in the box. The goal was Vowinkel's team-high fourth of the season. But DaSilva put the Great Danes back up by three at 78:45 after he stole the ball from Dudley, 35 yards out, and raced in on an empty net for the score.
Hofstra is back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. when it travels to Philadelphia to take on Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association game.
