FH: Hofstra Gets Tripped Up By Rider On Second Half Goals

Hempstead, NY – Sophomore Djuna Slort gave the Pride a 1-0 lead at halftime but the Broncs scored four second half goals, including three in the third quarter, as Rider defeated Hofstra, 4-1 in a non-conference game at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Slort opened the scoring for Hofstra with a goal off a penalty corner with junior Frankie O'Brien and senior Madison Warfel assisting on the play. It was Slort's third goal of the year.

Rider came out of the break breathing fire, and scored three goals in the first 9:11 of the quarter. Sophomore Carly Brosious off a pass across the circle from classmate Julia Divorra just 1:38 into the period. Brosious assisted on the game-winner, firing a shot from near the top of the circle that was tipped in by junior Kaitlyn Flemming almost six minutes later. Sophomore Tess van Ommeren notched her fifth goal of the year two minutes later off a pass from freshman Sierra Giuliano following a penalty corner.

Divorra closed out the scoring with 3:58 to play in the game on a blast from near the end line that beat Pride goalie Merlijn van der Vegt on the long side. It was Divorra's 13th goal of the year.

Hofstra returns to Colonial Athletic Association play on Friday, October 25 when the Pride host the Blue Hens of Delaware at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 3 p.m.
