MBB: Wright-Foreman's Buzzer Beater Drops Northeastern; Win Streak At 10

Hempstead, NY - Justin Wright-Foreman's 34-foot three-pointer at the buzzer capped off a 14-2 run over the final 5:11 and gave Hofstra a 75-72 victory over Northeastern Saturday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The basket gave Wright-Foreman a career-high 42 points, which is also a Mack Sports Complex record.

Hofstra extended its win streak to 10 games and improved to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Northeastern, the CAA preseason favorite, slipped to 7-8 on the season and 1-2 in league action.

Wright-Foreman shot 15-30 from the field and was 8-9 from the line. He also added six rebounds. Jacquil Taylor was the only other Hofstra player in double figures with 10 points. He also added seven rebounds. Tareq Coburn tied for team-high honors with seven rebounds, while Desure Buie had seven points and five assists. Eli Pemberton chipped in with eight points.

Hofstra led at the half, 40-34, after a first half that saw the Pride shoot 52-percent from the floor. With the score tied at seven, Hofstra used a 16-9 run to take a 23-16 lead with 10:11 remaining in the opening stanza on Wright-Foreman's jumper. Northeastern outscored the Pride, 8-5, over the next 2:25 to get within four, 28-24, with 7:46 on the clock following a three-pointer from Jordan Roland. But the Pride went on a 6-0 run to go up by 10, 34-24, after a jumper from Pemberton with 3:51 on the clock. The Huskies would close out the half with a 10-6 spurt including two free throws with 0.3 seconds to go to make it a six-point game at intermission.

Northeastern came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Pride, 11-4, over the first 5:07 to take a 45-44 lead on a Roland three-pointer. But Wright-Foreman answered with back-to-back buckets to put the Pride back up, 48-45, with 13:55 on the clock. The lead would change hands once again with Roland and Tomas Murphy each hitting a pair of free throws for a 51-48 Northeastern advantage. Hofstra would take the lead back, 54-53, on Buie's three-pointer with 11:19 on the clock but the Huskies would answer with a 7-0 run to go up 60-54 with 9:17 remaining. The lead would grow to nine, 70-61, with 5:11 to go after a three-pointer from Vasa Pusica. Wright-Foreman's three-pointer and two free throws got Hofstra to within four, 70-66, with 2:58 to go. The senior guard added two more from the foul line to make it a two-point game with 2:43 on the clock. Taylor tied the score for the Pride with a pair for free throws with 2:00 to go and Wright-Foreman added another two from the stripe to give Hofstra a 72-70 lead with 1:28 remaining.
