Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University Department of Athletics and its men's basketball program are saddened to learn of the passing of former men's basketball staff member John Corso.
"John was a wonderful member of the Hofstra Basketball family and an incredible part of the Long Island sports community," commented Hofstra Men's Basketball Coach
Joe Mihalich. "Our thoughts and prayers are with John's family and friends during this time."
Corso, 58, passed away on January 26 after a courageous battle with cancer.
A longtime member of the men's basketball staff at Hofstra, Corso served as the director of men's basketball operations from 2001-10.
Corso worked as an assistant basketball coach at Davidson College, served as a NCAA Division I college basketball official and most recently was the athletic director at St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, New York.
Family will receive friends at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, 293 South Street Oyster Bay Tuesday 3-9 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic R.C. Chapel.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Dominic's John Corso Memorial Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made payable to St. Dominic's and indicated for the John Corso Scholarship Fund.
