HARRISONBURG, Va. – Senior guard
Boogie Brozoski matched her season-high of 22 points, but the effort fell short as the Hofstra University Women's Basketball team dropped a Colonial Athletic Association contest to the James Madison Dukes, 77-54, at the Convocation Center on Friday evening.
With the loss, Hofstra falls to 6-9 on the season and 0-3 in the CAA, while James Madison extended its home-game win streak to 19, improving to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in league action.
Brozoski's 22 points came as her fourth 20+ point total of the season, as she shot 8-of-21 from the field with a trio of three pointers and three assists. She was the lone player for the Pride who finished in double figures, as freshman
JaKayla Brown net seven points while sophomore
Jaylen Hines and junior
Sandra Karsten tallied six. Hines, who shot 60 percent from the field (3-of-5 FG) and scored all of her points in the fourth quarter, also grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds to lead the Pride.
James Madison was led by Kamiah Smalls, who was 9-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range for a team-high 22 points.
After the Dukes opened up the contest with a three-point basket, the Pride went on a 6-0 run as junior forward
Marianne Kalin, Brozoski, and junior guard
E'Lexus Davis each connected on their first baskets of the contest. During the initial five-minutes, Hofstra was hot on the defensive side of the ball, forcing five JMU turnovers in the first five minutes of action without committing a turnover themselves. The Dukes closed the quarter on a 12-4 run to lead the Pride by five at the end of one.
The second quarter was all James Madison, as the Dukes outscored the Pride, 23-5 in the frame and did not allow Hofstra to score for nearly eight minutes. During the draught, JMU went on a 13-0 run to increase the Dukes lead to 26. Brozoski gave the Pride some life just before the buzzer, nailing a three-point basket with three seconds on the clock.
Hofstra saw its best play in the third period, as the Pride came out of the locker room outscoring the Dukes, 17-15 over the next 10 minutes of action. Brozoski and Karsten teamed up to give the Pride an 11-0 run that lasted 3:07 to get within 19 points, but James Madison controlled the pace the remainder of the way to extend their win streak to five.
Hofstra will return to action on Sunday against the Towson Tigers. Tip off from the SECU Arena is slated for 2:00 pm.
