San Francisco, CA - The Hofstra Volleyball team roared back from a 2-0 deficit in the match to send the contest to a fifth set but the Pride dropped a narrow five-set match to San Francisco on Friday evening at War Memorial Gymnasium.
It was a record-breaking night for senior
Michela Rucli as she had a career-high tying 11 blocks in the match to become the program's all-time leader in block assists with 394. She passed Susan Gades, who had 386 from 1983-85.
Set scores were 25-20, 25-20, 10-25, 23-25 and 16-14 in favor of the Dons. The loss ends Hofstra's six match win streak and the Pride falls to 6-2 on the season. USF improves to 3-4 this season.
Junior
Laura Masciullo led Hofstra with 23 kills, while freshman
Aisha Skinner tallied season-highs of 17 kills and 15 digs for her first career double-double.
After the 2-0 deficit in the match the Pride roared back offensively and hit at a .542 clip in the third set to get on the board. The Pride would knot the match at two with a close win in the fourth stanza before an exciting fifth and final set saw Hofstra have one match point before San Francisco rallied to capture the win.
Senior
Nanishka Perez had 10 kills and a team-high 16 digs for her second double-double of the season. Kathya Garcia posted 15 kills and 13 digs, while Kate Ashman added 13 kills and four blocks.
Hofstra has a pair of matches on the schedule for Saturday as the Pride will face Southern Utah at 11 a.m. in a match that will be played at San Francisco before traveling to St. Mary's for a 7 p.m. contest to close the weekend.

- Hofstra is 3-3 all-time against San Francisco. Today was the first meeting between the programs since a contest in 2004.
- Tonight's match marked the first time this season that Hofstra has dropped the opening set of a match.
- Rucli's previous career-high in blocks came against Charleston on October 30, 2016.
