Michela Rucli posted 10 as the Hofstra Volleyball team swept Southern Utah on Saturday morning at War Memorial Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-5, 27-25 and 25-15.
The five points allowed in the opening set were the fewest Hofstra has ever allowed in the rally scoring era (since 2001) and the fewest since the Pride defeated Towson, 15-4, in the fourth set of a 3-1 victory over the Tigers on November 18, 2000.
The win moves the Pride's record to 7-2 this season as Hofstra has now won seven of its last eight matches. Southern Utah falls to 1-7 with the loss.
The match got off to a great start as Hofstra was clicking on all cylinders in the opening stanza, hitting at a robust .458 clip, while holding the Thunderbirds to a negative .167 attack percentage. After the lopsided first set, SUU battled in the second set before Hofstra took control late before another strong performance in the final set to capture the easy victory.
