MSOC: Hofstra Picks Up First CAA Win Of Season Versus Drexel

Hempstead, NY - Marcus Lindqvist scored his first career goal in the 67th minute to give Hofstra a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association win over Drexel Wednesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The win extended Hofstra's unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2) and was a program-record sixth consecutive shutout.

The Pride moved to 4-3-3 on the season and 1-0-1 in CAA play. Drexel, which is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association poll, fell to 6-2-1 on the season and 1-2 in league action.

Hofstra controlled the game, taking 15 shots compared to seven for the Dragons. The Pride also had 14 corner kicks to three for Drexel. But the game remained scoreless until Lindqvist and Luke Brown executed a give-and-go with the senior from Oslo, Norway, finishing the play with a left-footed flick past Drexel keeper Stephen Kopsachilis (four saves).

Alex Ashton made two saves in the Hofstra net and set a new individual record for consecutive shutouts by a goalkeeper with six, breaking the old mark of five held by Matthias Gumbrecht in 2005.

Hofstra will be back in action Saturday night against William & Mary with game time at Hofstra Soccer Stadium set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 516-HOF-TIXX or by visiting HofstraTickets.com.
