VB: Five In A Row For Pride

West Point, NY - Freshman Aisha Skinner tallied 11 kills and eight digs, junior Luisa Sydlik added 32 assists and six digs, and freshman Maddie Appleton posted 10 digs to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to its fifth straight win, a three-set sweep of in-state foe Albany on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Ivania Ortiz had a spectacular match from the serving line as she posted six service aces in the contest. It is the most for a Pride player since Harmonie Calinda tallied eight against UNCW on November 4, 2007.

Hofstra won by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18 as it improved to 5-1 this season. Albany slipped to 1-5 in 2018. It marks the fifth straight year Hofstra has had at least a five-match win streak.

It was the second straight match Hofstra has held its opponent below a .100 attack percentage as the Pride's defense forced the Great Danes into just a .033 hitting percentage. Senior Doris Bogoje contributed nine kills for the Pride, while junior Laura Masciullo added seven. Senior Michela Rucli chipped in with six kills on 13 attempts with no errors for the Pride. Kelly Cameron led Albany with 19 assists and 12 digs, while Nicole Otero had 16 digs and Akuabata Okenwa had seven kills.

Hofstra closes play at the Black Knights Invitational with a 7 p.m. match tonight against Army West Point.

NOTES
- Hofstra evened the all-time series with Albany at 2-2. It was the first meeting between the teams since 2009.
- The win gave Hofstra another victory against an in-state foe and improved the Pride's all-time record against New York State schools to 110-33 all-time.
- It was the third straight match in double figures in kills for Skinner.
