Aisha Skinner led a balanced offensive attack with 13 kills as the Hofstra Volleyball team easily dispatched of Southeastern Louisiana in three sets on Friday afternoon at the Black Knights Invitational.
The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improved the Pride's record to 4-1 this season. SLU fell to 1-4 with the loss. Three of the Pride's wins during the streak have come in sweeps. Hofstra won by set scores of 25-21, 25-12 and 25-20.
It was a strong effort on both sides of the ball for Hofstra as in addition to holding the Lions to a .084 attack percentage, the Pride managed a solid .363 attack percentage themselves. Sophomore
Ana Martinovic reached double figures in kills for the first time this season as she had 10 kills. Junior
Luisa Sydlik led Hofstra with 26 assists, while fellow junior setter
Eliska Truneckova chipped in with 10 assists in the first extended playing time of her Hofstra career. Freshman
Maddie Appleton led the Pride with nine digs. Sam Gomez had seven kills for Southeastern Louisiana, while Michelle Mirarchi posted 10 assists.
Hofstra has a busy day on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. match against Albany and a 7 p.m. contest against Army West Point.
NOTES
- This was the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Southeastern Louisiana.
- Sydlik moved into ninth place all-time at Hofstra in assists with 2,033. She passed Beth Arnette, who had 2,027 from 2000-03.
- The 10 kills marked a new career-high for Martinovic. She previously had eight most recently against Tennessee State on September 9, 2017.
- The 13 kills are a season-high for Skinner. She has now reached that total three times.
