WSOC: Hofstra Begins Road Trip At Fordham, #6 Virginia

8/28/2018 10:35:00 AM

Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Women's Soccer team begins a five-game road swing this week, heading to local rival Fordham for a 7 p.m. matchup on Thursday before heading to No. 6 Virginia at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Both games will be available via live stats and live video. Thursday's game at Fordham will be broadcast on ESPN+, while Saturday's contest at Virginia will be on ACC Network Extra.

The Pride (2-1) earned a dramatic win over Boston University last Thursday, with senior Madeline Anderson tying the game with 20 seconds left in regulation before sophomore Lucy Porter won it for Hofstra, 2-1, in double overtime. Anderson was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week after also leading the Pride defense that held the Terriers to just two shots on goal over 111 minutes. Five different Hofstra players picked up points in the win, with seniors Monique Iannella and Jenn Buoncore and sophomore Jordan Littleboy recording assists.

The Rams (0-3) are looking for their first win and their first goal of the season after shutout losses to No. 5 South Carolina, Holy Cross and Columbia. Fordham was picked ninth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

The Cavaliers (4-0) are unbeaten thus far, picking up wins over Colgate, Cincinatti, CAA team William & Mary and Bucknell, while allowing just one goal over that span. Sophomore Taryn Torres was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, while Virginia was predicted to finish third.

The Pride will continue its road trip at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 at Fairleigh Dickinson.
