BB: Hofstra Falls To Monmouth

Hempstead, NY – Tyler Ksiazek threw a complete game and Max Goione had two hits and four RBIs as Monmouth defeated Hofstra, 10-3, Tuesday afternoon at University Field.

Hofstra fell to 22-19 on the season while Monmouth upped its record to 24-21.

Pete Papcun opened the scoring for Monmouth with a three-run home run in the first inning off losing pitcher Seamus Brazill (2-3). The Hawks would add three more runs in the second on RBI doubles from Ryan Steckline and Danny Long, and a run-scoring single from Shaine Hughes.

The Pride got on the board in the third as Steven Foster doubled and Tyler White knocked him in with a single to right. Teddy Cillis made it a 6-2 game in the fourth with a solo home run, his fourth of the season. But Goione singled in two runs in the sixth and hit a two-run homer in the eighth to close out the scoring for the Hawks.

???????Mikey Riesner hit his first home run of the season in the ninth, a leadoff shot to left that made it a 10-3 game. But Ksiazek escaped a first and second situation by striking out the final two batters to improve to 1-0 on the season. He allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out nine.

???????Brazill gave up six runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings.

???????Hofstra is back in action Friday when it opens a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against James Madison. Game time at University Field is 3 p.m.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 3-9-1 all-time versus Monmouth and split the home and home series this season.
-Vito Friscia extended his hitting streak to seven games with a pair of hits.
-Jimmy Joyce turned in 2 2/3 innings of 1-hit relief while Andrew Mundy and Kyle Skidmore each threw a scoreless inning.
-Rob Weissheier also had a pair of hits for the Pride.
