BB: Hofstra Blanked By Northeastern In Series Finale

Hempstead, NY - Sean Mellen threw seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and Mason Koppens drove in a pair of runs as Northeastern took the deciding game of a weekend series, 3-0, over Hofstra, Sunday at University Field.
 
The Huskies improved to 30-14 overall and maintained their lead in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 14-4 mark. Hofstra dropped to 22-18 on the year and 11-10 in league play.
 
Mellen (10-1) struck out nine batters and allowed just a first inning single to Vito Friscia. David Stiehl did not allow a hit in the eighth and Andrew Misiaszek picked up his 10thsave with a perfect ninth inning.
 
Koppens drove in the first Northeastern run, in a two-run second inning, with a sacrifice fly to left that plated Ryan Solomon, who had doubled to start the inning. Ian Fair singled in the second run for the Huskies. Koppens would drive in the final run of the game with a sixth inning single that scored Cam Walsh, who was hit by a pitch to start the inning.
 
Brad Camarda (2-2) started for Hofstra and allowed two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings. Teddy Cillis three the next six innings, allowing a run on four hits with five strikeouts. Chris Weiss closed out the final inning and 1/3 and had three strikeouts.
 
Hofstra is back in action Tuesday when it hosts Monmouth at 3:30 p.m.
 
Notes:
-Hofstra trails in the all-time series with Northeastern, 37-21.
-Friscia extended his hitting streak to six games.
-Hofstra was shutout for the fourth time this season.
