Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Softball Coach
Larissa Anderson has resigned to take the head coaching position at the University of Missouri, it was announced today.
"This has been one of the most emotional days of my life," Anderson said. "I've spent 20 years being a part of the Hofstra family, I grew up in blue and gold. And to say goodbye to everyone who has been a part of this journey is bittersweet. I've had amazing experiences and opportunities while at Hofstra. I can't thank Hall of Fame coach Bill Edwards enough for taking a chance on me when I was a young kid. This has allowed me to be a part of winning 12 conference championships and competing in 12 NCAA Tournament Regionals. But none of this would've been possible if it wasn't for Jeff Hathaway choosing me to lead this program the last four years and for administrators like
Cindy Lewis being so supportive of our program. I am so proud of the players who wear the Hofstra uniform and know they will continue to do great things. I'm excited for this next journey at Mizzou and will always take Hofstra with me wherever I go. I'm proud to have been their coach and will always hold a special place in my heart for the Pride!"
"Larissa has been a huge part of the success of the Hofstra Softball program over the past nearly two decades," commented Hofstra Director of Athletics Rick Cole, Jr. "Teaming with legendary coach Bill Edwards, they helped establish the Pride Softball program as the preeminent program in the northeast and a nationally-recognized and successful team in the world of collegiate softball. We thank her for all she has done for our University and softball program and wish her well at Missouri."
Anderson just concluded her fourth season as the head coach of the Pride and has compiled a 130-73-1 record during her head coaching career.
In 2018, the Pride compiled an impressive 41-14 record and captured the Colonial Athletic Association title and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Before taking over as the head coach, Anderson spent the previous 13 seasons on the Hofstra staff as an assistant, including the last 10 as the associate head coach.
Anderson led Hofstra to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and 10 Colonial Athletic Association championships as an assistant before racking up another title and NCAA regional appearance as a first-year head coach in 2015.
