BB: Hofstra Falls To Delaware In 10 Innings

Hempstead, NY – Erik Bowren's two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning broke a 2-2 tie as Delaware salvaged the final game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series with a 5-2 victory over Hofstra Sunday afternoon at University Field.

Hofstra slipped to 14-10 overall and 4-5 in the CAA. Delaware, which snapped a five-game losing streak, improved to 14-14 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Hofstra took a 2-0 lead in the fifth following a two-out rally. Austin Gauthier singled and took second on a fielding error. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Gauthier came in to score on a wild pitch. Mikey Riesner followed with an infield single that plated Steven Foster with the second run.

But Delaware got both runs back in the top of the sixth with a two-out rally of its own. Kyle Baker and Nick Patten singled with both runners moving up a base on a wild pitch from Hofstra starter Teddy Cillis. Calvin Scott then singled up the middle to drive in both runners and tie the score.

Cillis went seven innings and allowed six hits. Chris Weiss (2-3) came on in the eighth after pitching three innings Saturday and got through two innings before running into the 10thinning trouble. The senior allowed three run on three hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings. He did record four strikeouts.

James Meeker (4-0) picked up the win in relief of Delaware starter Billy Sullivan IV. Meeker went the final 5 1/3 innings and allowed just two hits. Sullivan allowed just one hit in the first 4 2/3, but walked eight batters.
