Harrisonburg, VA - Sophomore
Alyssa Parrella had another outstanding game against one of the nation's top teams with five points on four goals and an assist but the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team fell, 15-10, to #4 James Madison on Sunday afternoon at Sentara Park.
The loss evens Hofstra's record on the season at 8-8 and moves them to 2-4 in Colonial Athletic Association action. James Madison improved to 15-1 and 5-0 in league play.
Parrella had back-to-back strong games against #8 Towson on Friday and today against James Madison. She had six points on four goals and two assists against the Tigers to go along with her five points today. She now has 76 points on 53 goals and 23 assists this season. Parrella also had 76 points as a freshman and that is the second-most in a single season in program history, only eclipsed by Brittain Altomare's 81 points in 2015. The 53 goals are the second-most in a single season as well, only bested by Kathleen Mikowski's 57 in 2003.
Parrella also becomes only the 11th player in program history with 100 career goals as her fourth tally today gave her that rarified total. In career totals, she now ranks ninth with 152 points and eighth with 52 assists, to go along with her 11th spot on the career goals chart.
James Madison led 8-1 early on with Parrella accounting for the Pride's only goal at the 18:47 mark. A goal from senior
Drew Shapiro would start a min-run for Hofstra as the Pride would score four of the last six goals of the first half to close the gap to 10-5 at the break. Shapiro was joined in the run by junior
Tessa Sinatro, sophomore
Mary Kate Gerety and Parrella.
The lead grew to 12-5 early in the second stanza before Sinatro scored her second of the game with 22:14 remaining in regulation. The teams would alternate scores over the next few minutes with sophomore
Alexa Mattera scoring twice for the Pride to make it 14-8 with 9:37 left. After Kristen Gaudian scored the Dukes' final goal, Parrella added two more goals to account for the final score.
Mattera had two goals for Hofstra to join Parrella and Sinatro with multiple goals for the Pride. She also added an assist. Freshman
