Elon, NC - Hofstra rallied from a 4-1 deficit to get within one but came up short in a 5-3 loss to Elon Sunday at Latham Park. Elon's win completed a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series sweep for the Phoenix.
Hofstra saw its record fall to 14-14 on the season and 4-8 in the CAA. Elon improved to 20-16 overall and 7-5 in league play.
Elon took a 2-0 lead in the second, scoring two unearned runs with a two-out rally. Hofstra loaded the bases in the third and pushed a run across on
Vinnie Costello's walk. However, Elon took back a three-run lead in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases and scoring on a wild pitch.
Hofstra made things interesting in the sixth, scoring twice to make it a 4-3 game.
Kevin O'Connor and
Vito Friscia delivered back-to-back two-out RBI singles to drive in
Daniel Page and
Matt Siedem, respectively.
The Phoenix added an insurance run in the seventh on Zach Evers solo home run to close out the scoring.
Teddy Cillis (0-3) took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out five. Siedem finished the day 2-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored.
???????Elon reliever Owen Lorenz (4-2) earned the win with 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Evers finished 2-4 with a pair of RBIs.
???????Hofstra is back in action Wednesday when it hosts St. John's. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

-Hofstra is now 4-8 all-time versus Elon.
