Hempstead, NY -
Vito Friscia hit a three-run home run for Hofstra, but No. 23 St. John's extended its win streak to nine games with a 12-4 victory over the Pride Wednesday afternoon at University Field.
The loss, Hofstra's sixth in a row, dropped the Pride's record to 14-15 on the season. The Red Storm improved to 23-10 on the year.
St. John's took an 11-0 lead after 5 ½ innings, using an 8-run fifth to extend a 3-0 lead. Rob Boselli had a two-run double in the inning for the Red Storm.
The Pride broke up the shutout in the sixth as
Tyler White led off with a single and
Steven Foster followed with a walk. Two batters later, Friscia delivered his team-leading fifth home run of the season – a 400-foot blast over the centerfield fence to make it 11-3.
Teddy Cillis then doubled and came home on
Parker Quinn's RBI single. But that would be all the runs Hofstra would muster.
St. John's starter Jeff Belge allowed two hits in five scoreless innings to even his record at 3-3. John Valente went 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs to pace the St. John's offense.
Seamus Brazill (1-2) started for the Pride and was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in three innings.
Foster and White each had two hits in the game for the Pride.
Hofstra is back in action Friday when it hosts CAA-leading Charleston at 3 p.m.
