BB: Hofstra Drops Game Two At Elon

Elon, NC - Steven Foster and Vito Friscia each had multi-hit games but it was not enough as Elon recorded a 6-3 victory over Hofstra Saturday evening at Latham Park. The won clinched the Colonial Athletic Association series for the Phoenix.

Hofstra dropped to 14-13 overall and 4-7 in the CAA with the loss. Elon moved 19-16 overall and 6-5 in league play with the win.

Elon scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. The Pride got on the board in the sixth as Vinnie Costello singled home Friscia. But the Phoenix added three runs in the seventh courtesy of a Ryne Ogren home run to take a 6-1 advantage. Hofstra got an RBI single from Foster and a base loaded walk to Rob Weissheier in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Foster finished the day 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Friscia was 2-5 with a run scored. Austin Gauthier, Costello and Rob Weissheier each had one hit on the day.

Matt Weissheier (2-4) took the loss for Hofstra, allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings. George Kirby (6-1) earned the win for Elon after allowing a run on five hits with 13 strikeouts in seven innings. Robbie Welhaf pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.

The series concludes Sunday at 10 a.m.

NOTES:
-The loss was Hofstra's fourth in a row, its longest streak of the season.
-Hofstra did not commit an error and has not made one in its 11 CAA games thus far.
-Jimmy Joyce pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his first conference appearance.
