MLAX: Tolmie's Late Goal Lifts Hofstra Past Monmouth

Hempstead, NY - Bryce Tolmie scooped up a rebound in front of the Monmouth net and scored the game-winning goal with 1:39 to play as No. 19 Hofstra recorded a 7-6 victory over Monmouth Wednesday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

The victory was Hofstra's third consecutive and pushed its record to 3-2 on the season. Monmouth dropped to 2-4 with its second straight loss.

Hofstra opened the scoring 2:54 into the contest as Brendan Kavanagh converted a pass from Dominic Pryor. Nearly five minutes later, Jimmy Yanes made it 2-0 with an unassisted score at the 7:44 mark. Brock Anderson put Monmouth on the board with 1:03 remaining in the quarter.

Dylan McIntosh upped Hofstra's lead to 3-1 as he put away a pass from Ryan Tierney midway through the second quarter. The Hawks then reeled off two consecutive goals to tie the score with 3:13 to play in the half. Anderson scored his second of the contest with 6:05 on the clock and Griffin Figel tied the score off a feed from Dylan Schulte. Tierney put Hofstra back on top, 4-3, with 2:25 remaining with an unassisted goal.

Monmouth once again tied things up, opening the third quarter with a Hunter Jones goal at the 1:18 mark. But Tierney scored two unassisted goals, at 1:52 and 3:07 to make it 6-4 in favor of the Pride.

The Hawks rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring two unanswered goals to tie the game at 6. Bryce Wasserman scored an unassisted goal 1:42 into the stanza and Jones came through with the equalizer once again at the 5:30 mark.  The score would remain tied until Tolmie's late game heroics, which came on a man-up situation. Monmouth did have one more offensive possession and got off two shots. One was high, while the final shot was blocked by Tanner Griffin with 24 seconds to go. The Pride corralled the ground ball and ran out the clock.

Jack Concannon made nine saves in goal to earn the win. Monmouth goalkeeper Noah Lode had eight saves in a losing effort.

???????Hofstra will be back in action Saturday when it travels to Providence for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Friars. The game will air on the Lax Sports Network.

Notes:
-Tierney's hat trick was his second of the season and eighth of his career.
-Kyle Gallagher won 11 of 16 face-offs and had a team-high eight ground balls.
-Tierney took 13 of Hofstra's 33 shots.
-Kavanagh has scored in seven consecutive games.
-Hofstra is now 2-0 all-time versus Monmouth.
