BB: Hofstra Downs UMBC For Eighth Straight Win

Baltimore, MD - Rob Weissheier's two-run double in the top of the eighth inning gave Hofstra a 3-2 lead and the Pride added another run in the inning to post a 4-2 victory over UMBC Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Pride won for the eighth consecutive game, one shy of the program record of nine set in 2013.

Hofstra (8-2) fell behind by a run twice in the contest. The Retrievers (2-9) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single Dmitri Floyd before Hofstra tied it in the seventh on Vinnie Costello's solo home run. UMBC would score an unearned run on a throwing error in the seventh to go up, 2-1, before the Pride's big eighth inning.

Steven Foster got the inning started with a walk. Austin Gauthier and Vito Friscia followed with singles to load the bases for Weissheier. The sophomore laced a double down the left field line to plate two runs. Two batters later, Daniel Page delivered the third run of the inning with an infield single.

Chris Weiss came on in relief for the Pride and struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth and added two more strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his third save. Brad Camarda (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win in relief of starter Teddy Cillis. Camarda went two innings and allowed an unearned run and two walks. Cillis, making his first start of the season, allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts in five innings.
