Towson, Md. – The Hofstra Women's Basketball team fell in heartbreaking fashion to Towson, 73-72, on Friday night at SECU Arena. Junior
Boogie Brozoski tallied 29 points, the highest offensive output of any member of the Pride this season, but the Tigers won the game in the final seconds.
Senior
Olivia Askin knocked down a three to take the lead for the Pride (10-13, 4-8 CAA) late in the fourth quarter, but May Cuevas put the Tigers (9-14, 4-8 CAA) back on top, 71-70, with 37.1 seconds left. Askin then found sophomore
Marianne Kalin to give the Pride a 72-71 advantage, but Towson made a pair of free throws to take the 73-72 win.
Kalin finished with 12 points, while classmates
Sandra Karsten and
E'Lexus Davis each chipped in 11. Cuevas led the Tigers with 22 points, with Nukiya Mayo finishing with a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds and Raven Bankston putting up 12.
In a fast-paced first quarter, the teams traded baskets in the early goings, with junior
Boogie Brozoski draining a three-pointer to knot the score at nine. The Tigers then used a 12-4 run to take a 21-13 lead, broken up by a long three from sophomore
Sandra Karsten. Towson took a 25-16 advantage into the second quarter.
The Tigers pushed the lead to 12 early in the second, before another trey from Brozoski cut the deficit back to single digits. A layup from Mary Cuevas after a steal at the other end gave Towson a 41-28 advantage. Karsten shaved the deficit to nine moments later with a pair of made free throws, before Cuevas answered with two of her own from the line. Layups from Kalin and Brozoski capped an 8-2 run for the Pride, leaving the score at 43-36 at the half.

Olivia Askin made it a four-point game early in the third quarter. Karsten made an easy layup in transition to make it 52-51. The teams exchanged baskets for most of the frame, with Towson taking a narrow 56-54 edge into the final quarter.
Brozoski stayed hot in the fourth quarter, draining a right-corner three to give Hofstra its first lead, 57-56. After a jumper from sophomore
Mikiyah Croskey gave the Pride a 65-61 lead, Towson scored the next four to knot the score at 65. After they had taken the lead, the Tigers were able to hang on and deny Hofstra a last-minute chance.
The Pride returns to action on Sunday, heading to Delaware for a 2 p.m. matchup.

-Brozoski's performance was the highest scoring output by a member of the Pride this season and her fourth straight game in double figures.
-Karsten's double-digit night was her third of the season.
