Newark, Del. – The Hofstra Women's Basketball team fell to Delaware, 61-41, on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Senior
Aleana Leon led the Pride (10-14, 4-9 CAA) with 11 points and six rebounds. The Blue Hens (15-8, 8-4 CAA) had a pair of players finish with double-doubles, with Samone Defreese picking up 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Nicole Enabosi finished with 17 points and 19 boards.
Leon knocked down a three-pointer to open the scoring for Hofstra. After the Blue Hens had taken a 6-3 lead, seven straight points from the Pride gave Hofstra a 10-6 lead. Delaware answered with a 6-0 run of its own to regain the advantage, but a layup from
Marianne Kalin put the Pride back on top 14-12. Junior
Boogie Brozoski's second three and a layup gave Hofstra a 19-14 to end the first quarter.
The Blue Hens opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run before Leon snapped it with a jumper to cut Delaware's lead to 23-21. The Blue Hens then closed the frame on a 12-3 streak to take a 32-24 lead into halftime. Leon broke into double figures in the third quarter, but Delaware outscored the Pride, 12-6, for a 47-30 lead heading into the final frame. The Pride put up 11 in the fourth, but the Blue Hens sealed the 20-point victory.
