Hempstead, NY – Justin Wright-Foreman had 24 points and Eli Pemberton scored 20 to lead four Pride players in double-figures, but Charleston also had four players score 10 or more and escaped with an 86-85 win Saturday night at the David S. Hofstra saw its two-game win streak snapped and fell to 14-10 overall and 7-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The league-leading Cougars won for the sixth consecutive game and improved to 18-6 overall and 9-3 in the CAA.

In addition to Wright-Foreman and Pemberton, the Pride received 11 points from Jalen Ray and 10 from Kenny Wormley. Rokas Gustys had a game-high nine rebounds to go along with six points.

Hofstra built a 16-9 lead 5:06 into the game behind five points from Wright-Foreman and four points from Gustys. All five Hofstra starters got in the scoring column in the early going as the Pride started the game 6-8 from the field. The Cougars would outscore the Pride, 8-5, over the next four minutes to make it a 21-17 game with 10:55 to go in the half. Charleston would eventually tie the score at 21 with 9:19 to go on a layup from Grant Riller. The game would be tied three more times before Charleston took its first lead of the game, 34-32, with 4:24 on the clock on a basket from Nick Harris. The Pride would close the half on a 14-9 run behind six points from Pemberton to take a 46-43 lead at the half.

Charleston came out fast in the second half and outscored the Pride, 10-3, over the first three minutes to take a 53-49 lead. Jarrell Brantley scored five points for the Cougars in the run. Charleston would maintain the advantage and lead 59-53 with 14:07 to go. But Hofstra used a 9-2 run to take a 62-61 lead on Wright-Foreman's jumper with 10:24 to go. With the score tied at 69, Hofstra ran off five straight points and took a 74-69 lead on Wright-Foreman's three with 6:23 to play.  Charleston would tie the score at 76 on Joe Chealey's three-pointer with 4:22 remaining. Gustys would snap the tie with an offensive rebound and layup with 3:52 to play. Neither team would score for more than a minute until Stafford Trueheart drained a pair of free throws to put Hofstra up by four, 80-76, with 2:35 remaining. Charleston hit three of its next four free throws to pull within one, 80-79, with two minutes to play. The Pride clung to an 82-81 lead with less than a minute to play before Chealey drained a long three-pointer to put the Cougars up, 84-82, with 33.9 ticks on the clock. On Hofstra's ensuing trip, Wright-Foreman drained his fourth three of the game to give the Pride the 85-84 lead with 16.9 seconds left. But following a timeout, the Cougars brought the ball up and got it down low to Brantley. The 6-7 junior bulled his way into the lane and hit the layup to give the Cougars the 86-85 lead.
