MLAX: Alderman Scores Twice But Hofstra Falls To #8 Villanova

Hempstead, NY – Pride senior Dylan Alderman scored twice for the Pride but the Wildcats scored three times to open the contest and added four more in the third quarter as eighth-ranked Villanova spoiled Hofstra's home opener with a 7-2 victory at James M. Shuart Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Hofstra falls to 0-2 on the season while the Wildcats of Villanova improve to 3-0.

The Pride found themselves down quickly as the Wildcats scored three goals in the first 3:35. Villanova's Danny Seidel opened the scoring  just 2:35 into the game off a pass from Keegan Khan.  Just 34 seconds later, Christian Cuccinello tallied his eighth of the year before Khan added his third of the season 26 seconds after the second goal.

Alderman put the Pride on the board with 7:38 to play in the first quarter with an unassisted tally. It was his first goal of the season.

After a scoreless second quarter for both teams, the Wildcats erupted for four unanswered goals in the third quarter as Luke Palmadesso scored off the opening face-off and Colin Crowley added a man-up goal 42 seconds later for a 5-0 advantage. Cuccinello added consecutive goals 1:35 apart near the midway point of the period to boost the lead to 7-1.

Alderman notched his second goal of the contest with just eight seconds remaining in the third quarter. There was no scoring for either team in the fourth quarter.

Hofstra will return to action on Tuesday, February 27 when the Pride travel east on Long Island to face the Seawolves of Stony Brook at 7 p.m.
