MLAX: Tierney and Alderman Lead Hofstra In Rout Of Stony Brook

Stony Brook, NY – Pride sophomore Ryan Tierney recorded a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists and senior Dylan Alderman added one goal and a career-high five assists to lead Hofstra to a 14-2 victory over Long Island rival the Stony Brook Seawolves at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium Tuesday night.

Hofstra improved to 1-2 on the young season while Stony Brook slipped to 0-4.

The Pride erupted for five goals in the first half including three in the first quarter turning around a trend of their first two outings. Tierney scored his third of the year just 46 seconds into the contest off a pass from Alderman. Freshman Dominic Pryor then tallied the first two goals of his young college career, scoring his first just 64 seconds after Tierney's goal, and the second off a pass from junior Jimmy Yanes at the 3:24 mark.

Stony Brook got on the board with 5:59 to play in the half as Chris Pickel scored off a pass from Wayne White while on the man-up. But Hofstra responded with goals by Tierney, at the 5:11 mark, and Alderman, at the 2:50 mark, to take a 5-1 at the break.

It didn't get better for the Seawolves in the second half as the Pride scored five times in the third quarter and four times in the fourth to close out the rout. Tierney had three goals and one assist in the third while Yanes had three goals in the second half. Graduate-student Mark Ellis, who transferred to Hofstra from Stony Brook for graduate-school, scored his first goal for the Pride as did freshman Bryce Tolmie.

Hofstra returns to action this Saturday, March 3 when the Pride host the 17th-ranked Hoyas of Georgetown at James M. Shuart Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
