MBB: Four In A Row For Hofstra

Hempstead, NY - Junior Justin Wright-Foreman had 27 points and five assists, while senior Rokas Gustys tallied 15 points and eight rebounds in his final game at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to a 91-86 victory over Towson on Saturday afternoon.

The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improves the Pride's record to 19-11 overall and 12-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson falls to 18-13 and 8-10 in the league.

The Pride fell into an early hole as Towson jumped out to a 14-7 almost six minutes into the game on a layup from Mike Morsell. Hofstra rebounded and used 12-3 run to take a 19-17 after a three-pointer from freshman Jalen Ray with 9:14 left before intermission. Leading by two late in the half, Hofstra got a pair of free throws from sophomore Stafford Trueheart and a layup from Wright-Foreman to make it 41-35 in favor of the home team. That was the Pride's largest lead of the opening 20 minutes and they would eventually take a four-point lead into the break.

As the Pride has done regularly in recent games, Hofstra came out of halftime and immediately grabbed the momentum scoring 11 of the first 13 points to take a 52-39 lead on a three-pointer from sophomore Eli Pemberton with 18:01 left in regulation. The lead would still be at 12, 73-61, with 7:57 left after a dunk from Gustys before Towson mounted a rally. The Tigers put together a 13-5 run to close the gap to two, 76-74, after two free throws from Eddie Keith II. Hofstra answered, though, and two free throws from junior Desure Buie and a basket from Pemberton pushed the lead back to six and gave the Pride some much-needed breathing room. The Pride would never be seriously challenged the rest of the way as they would go on to earn their 19th win of the season.

Hofstra ended up with five players in double figures as Pemberton (15), Buie (11) and Ray (11) joined Wright-Foreman and Gustys. Senior Hunter Sabety started and had six points and two rebounds. Zane Martin had 36 points, six rebounds and six assists for Towson. Justin Gorham added 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers.

Hofstra will next be in action at the CAA Championship from March 3-6 at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina. Full pairings will be available soon.
