MBB: Pemberton Shines In Hofstra Victory

Harrisonburg, VA - Sophomore Eli Pemberton scored a team-high # points to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to a wire-to-wire 77-61 victory over James Madison on Thursday evening at the JMU Convocation Center.

Hofstra improved to 18-11 and 11-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play with the win. The victory was the Pride's third in a row. James Madison falls to 9-20 and 5-11 in league play.

Stafford Trueheart put the Pride on the board at the 18:35 mark and the visitors would take an early 8-2 lead after a three-pointer from Pemberton with 17:02 on the clock. A jumper from Kenny Wormley would give Hofstra its first double-digit lead of the contest at 16-6 and the Pride would still hold a nine-point advantage at 25-16 with five minutes left before a quick 6-0 spurt made it 31-16 with 3:53 left. That was the Pride's largest lead of the opening stanza and Hofstra would take a 12-point lead into the break as Pemberton closed the half with a driving layup for two of his 13 first half points.

It was all Hofstra to start the second half as the Pride scored eight of the first 10 points in the stanza to push the lead to 43-25 with 17 minutes left after a bucket from Pemberton. The gap would grow to 22 as Jalen Ray drained a three-pointer with 13:52 remaining to make it 49-27. The Pride took its biggest lead, 77-52, with 2:12 to go on another three-pointer from Ray.

Ray would finish with 15 points on the night, draining three three-pointers on the night. After a slow start, Justin Wright-Foreman scored nine second half points to finish with 11. Desure Buie also had 11 points and dealt seven assists. Rokas Gustys had eight points and a game-high nine rebounds. Pemberton, who shot 7-12 and had three three-pointers, also chipped in with five rebounds and six assists.

Matt Lewis had a game-high 23 points to pace James Madison. He also added eight rebounds. Stuckey Mosley added 12 points, while DeVelle Phillips and Ramone Snowden scored 10 points each. Snowden also had eight rebounds.

Hofstra will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Towson in its regular season finale. The Pride will honors its three seniors (Joel Angus III, Rokas Gustys and Hunter Sabety) in a pregame ceremony. NOTES
- Hofstra is 17-12 all-time against James Madison. The Pride won this season's earlier meeting, 87-81 in overtime, on January 5 in Hempstead.
- With his nine rebounds, Rokas Gustys now trails David Robinson by 27 for the all-time CAA rebounding record (1,314 from 1983-87).
- Justin Wright-Foreman extended his double-figure scoring streak to 51 games, the fourth-longest streak in the nation.
-The double-digit victory was Hofstra's seventh of the season and second in a row.
