MBB: Second Half Flurry Powers Pride

Hempstead, NY - Junior Justin Wright-Foreman tallied a game-high 32 points, including 22 in the second half, and senior Rokas Gustys had 17 rebounds and 10 points to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to an 88-76 win over Drexel on Saturday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

The win was Hofstra's second straight and third in its last four games to improve the Pride's record to 17-11 overall and 10-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Drexel falls to 11-18 and 5-11 in the league with its fourth straight loss.

Hofstra fell into a 9-2 hole in the game before quickly recovering and putting together a 14-4 run to take a 16-13 lead with 10:38 left in the opening stanza. Pemberton keyed the run with seven of the points, while Wright-Foreman got the spurt started with a thunderous baseline dunk. The two teams battled back and forth the rest of the half with Gustys ending the first half scoring with a basket with 13 seconds left to cut the deficit to two at 34-32.

The Pride took complete control of the game out of the intermission as Hofstra outscored Drexel, 22-5, over the first 5:16 of the second stanza to open up a 54-39 advantage following a layup from junior Desure Buie. Gustys and Buie changed the game during the run as Buie scored nine of the 22 and Gustys added six. The Dragons closed to within three, 67-64, with 6:01 remaining following a pair of free throws from Troy Harper but a 10-2 Pride spurt that followed closed the door and allowed Hofstra to pick up another late season victory.

Pemberton had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. It marked his second career double-double. In addition, with Gustys and Pemberton tallying double-doubles it was the first time two teammates had double-doubles since Gustys and Ty Greer both had them against Stony Brook on December 13, 2016. Buie finished with 13 points, three assists and a career-high tying four steals in the game.

Tramaine Isabell led Drexel with 29 points and added six rebounds and three assists. Alihan Demir chipped in with nine rebounds, eight points and five assists for the Dragons.

Hofstra is back in action on Thursday when it travels to James Madison for a 7 p.m. contest.
