MBB: Pride Looks To Slay Dragons

12/29/2018 10:22:00 AM

Hempstead, NY - Coming off an eye-opening performance in its Colonial Athletic Association opener on Friday, the Hofstra Men's Basketball team will look to continue its momentum on Sunday when it hosts Drexel. The Pride defeated Delaware, 91-46, for its eighth straight win on Friday evening.

Hofstra brings an 11-3 overall record and a 1-0 CAA mark into Sunday's game. Drexel is 6-8 and 0-1 in league action. The eight-game win streak is the longest since an eight-game streak during the 2015-16 season. The last time the Pride had a streak longer was in 2004-05 when Hofstra won its first nine games of the season. The eight-game streak is the eighth-longest in program history.

Hofstra Head Coach Joe Mihalich heads into the contest seeking win #100 during his Pride career. He is currently 99-79 during his six seasons in Hempstead and 364-292 in 21 seasons as a head coach.

Tip-off from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Tickets are available for purchase by visiting HofstraTickets.com, calling (516) HOF-TIXX or by stopping at the Hofstra Athletics Ticket Office in the lobby of the Mack Sports Complex.

There will be Pride Productions live video/audio as well as live statistics. Links to all three can be found on this page and on the men's basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com. Audio for the broadcasts is provided by WRHU (88.7 FM).

It was as complete of an effort for Hofstra on Friday as the Pride has seen in some time against a conference or Division I foe. Hofstra jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back in posting the 45-point victory. It marked the Pride's largest margin of victory at the NCAA Division I level over a Division I opponent. It was also the most dominating CAA win since January 27, 2010 when VCU defeated Towson, 112-53. In addition, it was the first 40-point conference win since February 2, 2010 when Drexel beat Towson, 97-55.

Senior Justin Wright-Foreman scored 29 points against the Blue Hens to push his season average back over 25 points per game and is averaging 25.1 per contest. Graduate student Jacquil Taylor was stellar defensively against Delaware and posted a game-high 12 rebounds to push his season average to 7.9 per outing. And it was another strong game for senior Desure Buie, who had nine points, five assists and three steals in the contest and leads the team with 63 assists this season.

Drexel battled Northeastern before falling, 93-83, in Boston on Friday. Troy Harper led the Dragons with 28 points, while Alihan Demir posted 14 points and 10 rebounds. Harper leads the team with 15.4 points, while Alihan is second in scoring and rebounding with averages of 14.2 and 7.4, respectively. James Butler is averaging a team-high 7.9 rebounds per outing and Camren Wynter has posted 71 assists this season to lead the way.

Hofstra is 41-46 all-time against Drexel in a series that began during the 1958-59 campaign. Hofstra won the first-ever meeting, 70-64, in the Middle Atlantic Championships. Heading into Sunday's game, the Hofstra/Drexel series ranks as the Pride's second-most played opponent all-time as the two schools have met 87 times. Hofstra has only faced one team more as the Pride has met Delaware 89 times.
