MBB: Hofstra Routs Delaware For Eighth Straight Win

Hempstead, NY – Senior Justin Wright-Foreman scored a game-high 29 points in just 29 minutes to lead three Pride players in double-figures as the Hofstra Men's Basketball team recorded their eighth consecutive victory with a 91-46 victory over the Blue Hens of Delaware in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. It was Hofstra's largest margin of victory in a CAA game since the Pride joined the league in 2001.

In addition to Wright-Foreman's 67th consecutive double-figure contest and 14th this season, Hofstra, which improved to 11-3 on the season, received 17 points from junior Eli Pemberton and 12 points from classmate Tareq Coburn. Senior Desure Buie tallied nine points and game-highs of five assists and three steals. Graduate-student Jacquil Taylor grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Pride, who shot 53% (31-58) from the field including 61% (14-23) from the three-point line. The win was Hofstra's 11th straight at home.

Delaware, which slipped to 8-5 on the season with their third consecutive loss, was led by freshman Matt Veretto with nine points while sophomore Ryan Allen and Kevin Anderson each added eight points. Senior Eric Carter and junior Collin Goss each grabbed eight caroms for the Blue Hens.

Hofstra practically ran the Blue Hens out of the building in the first half, hitting on 63% (17-27) of their shots, including 6-of-10 from the three-point line, to build a 48-18 lead at halftime. While the Pride was hot, Delaware was not as the Blue Hens hit on just 23% (7-30) from the field.

Delaware scored the first bucket of the contest but the Pride answered with the next 10 over the next 4:25, including five by Wright-Foreman, to take a 10-2 lead at the 15:14 mark. Hofstra kept adding to their lead, scoring nine unanswered points, to turn a 22-12 advantage into a 31-12 lead after Wright-Foreman's second trey of the period at the 7:38 mark.

After the two teams split the next six points, the Pride went on a 12-0 run, behind six from Wright-Foreman, to open up their biggest lead of the half at 46-15 with 0:28 to play in the first half. Jacob Cushing hit a three-pointer for the Blue Hens with 10 seconds to play before Jalen Ray hit a driving lay-up with just two ticks remaining to close out the scoring in the half. Wright-Foreman tallied 18 points in the first half while Pemberton added nine and Coburn chipped in with eight. Matt Veretto tallied seven for UD.

The Pride kept their foot on the pedal in the second half, scoring the first eight points of the period on their way to a 23-7 run over the first 7:10 to boost the lead to 71-25 on a Buie three-pointer. The Blue Hens never got any closer than they were at halftime as the Pride led by as many as 48 at 91-43 on Kenny Wormley's lay-up with 1:39 to play in the contest. Hofstra cleared the bench with a little over six minutes to play, three minutes after Wright-Foreman left the contest.

The Pride hit on 45% (14-31) of their shots in the second half including 8-for-13 from the three-point line. Delaware's shooting improved slightly in the second half as the Blue Hens shot 29% (9-31) to finish at 26 percent for the game.

Hofstra is back in action on Sunday when the Pride host the Drexel Dragons at the Mack Sports Complex. Game time for the CAA match-up is 4 p.m.
