Hempstead, NY - Hofstra senior defender
Sean Nealis was named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America First Team, the association announced today. Nealis is the fourth Hofstra Men's Soccer student-athlete to be named a Scholar All-American, joining Michael Todd (2006), Chris Griebsch (2013) and Joseph Holland (2015).
Â
In addition to his Scholar All-America honor, Nealis was also named to the Scholar All-East Region Team. The Massapequa, New York, native owns a 3.73 grade point average as an accounting major.Â
Â
Last week Nealis earned First Team All-Atlantic Region accolades from the United Soccer Coaches for his play on the field. The 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-CAA selection, he anchored a back line that helped the Pride to 11 shutouts on the year, including a program-record eight-match shutout streak midway through the season. Nealis also contributed on the offensive end with two goals and three assists for seven points.Â

Hofstra finished the season with a 10-6-5 record and advanced to the CAA title game.Â
