HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University Women's Basketball (1-1) team dropped 23 fourth period points against Columbia (1-0), but the comeback fell just short against the Lions, 65-63.
Senior
Sica Cuzic notched her first career double, setting career highs in two separate categories with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Senior
Boogie Brozoski reached double figures in scoring for the second-straight game with 11 points. Sophomore
Jaylen Hines and junior
Petja Krupenko were not far behind, netting nine points each.
With the score 36-32 at the midway point, Hofstra was limited to just eight points in the third quarter, despite taking 20 shots in the frame. Down by eight at the start of the fourth period, Hofstra found the lead, using three-straight three pointers by Cuzic, Krupenko and Brozoski to gain the 55-53 edge. Columbia would go on to end the game using an 8-3 run, making several crucial free throws down the stretch to run away with the win.
Up next, Hofstra will travel across Long Island to face Stony Brook in a non-conference game on Tuesday, November 13. Game time at the Island Federal Credit Union Center is slated for 7:00 pm.
