WSOC: Hofstra Heads To Boston College For NCAA First Round Matchup

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University Women's Soccer team will play at No. 22 Boston College in a first-round game of the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 9, at the Newton Soccer Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m. with the winner playing the winner of the Memphis-Wisconsin game Nov. 16 in the second round of the tournament.
 
Tickets can be purchased at the gate ($8-Adults, $5-Students, $3-Under 18). The game will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra. Live statistics will also available. Links are available above or on the women's soccer schedule page of GoHofstra.com.
 
The Pride (15-5-1) earned the Colonial Athletic Association's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament this past Saturday, defeating top-seeded James Madison, 2-1, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to take home the CAA title for the second time in as many years and fifth time overall.
 
The NCAA appearance is Hofstra's seventh in program history and the third in the past four seasons. Hofstra is 2-6-1 all-time in NCAA Tournament play. Hofstra has played Boston College twice in the NCAA Tournament, dropping a 3-1 decision in the second round in 2010 followed by a 2-0 loss in the 2012 first round. The Pride is 0-4 all-time versus the Eagles. 
 
Hofstra will enter the NCAA Tournament on a six-game win streak and a seven-game unbeaten streak. The Pride won all three CAA Championship games by shutout and has not allowed a goal in four games.
 
The Hofstra offense has been led by first team All-CAA selections Sabrina Bryan and Lucy Porter, second team All-CAA pick Jenn Buoncore, and CAA Rookie of the Year Miri Taylor. Bryan leads the CAA with 11 goals and 26 points while Porter has 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. Buoncore has a school record 13 assists this season to go along with thee goals for 19 points. She leads the CAA and is tied for fourth in the nation with the 13 assists. Taylor has three goals and three assists for nine points. Monique Iannella (1 goal, 5 assists), Lucy Shepherd (3 goals, 1 assist), Jordan Littleboy (1 goal, 4 assists), Madeline Anderson (1 goal, 1 assist), Bella Richards (1 goal), and Megan Fisher (1 goal) have also contributed to the Pride offense. 

Defensively, the Pride is led by Anderson, the two-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year, as well as All-CAA Second Team selection Kelly Gerdes. The pair has teamed together on the Pride back line for each of the past three seasons and has helped Hofstra to nine shutouts this season. Iannella and Chelsea Steigman have also contributed to Hofstra's defensive effort. The goalkeeping tandem of starter Jenna Borresen and finisher Ashley Wilson have combined for a 0.92 goals against average, 81 saves and a .802 save percentage. 
 
Boston College (14-4-1) will be making its 19th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, but first since 2015. The Eagles have been to nine Sweet 16's, three Elite Eight's and the 2010 College Cup. 
 
The Eagle's offense is led by Sam Coffey, who paced the ACC in goals (12), assists (14) and points (38). The ACC Midfielder of the Year is third in the country in assists per game (0.74), first in totals assists (14), 28th in goals (12) and fourth in total points (38). Defensively the Eagles allowed just 12 goals and posted 10 shutouts this season. Alexis Bryant, who posted a career-low 0.65 GAA, is the Eagles goalkeeper. In front of her is the back line of Mijke Roelfsema, Gianna Mitchell (five goals), Elysa Virella and Kayla Duran.
