Hempstead, NY - Senior Boogie Brozoski led five players in double figures with 18 points as the Hofstra Women's Basketball team got the 2018-19 season off to a great start with a 74-49 rout of Iona on Tuesday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Hofstra wins its season opener for the fourth consecutive year as they move to 1-0. Iona falls to 0-1 with the loss.

The Pride got off to a strong start in the contest as they scored the first seven points of the contest, including four points from Brozoski and three from senior Sica Cuzic. Brozoski was stellar all evening as she added eight assists to her total. Hofstra would lead 23-12 after one period and upped the advantage to 19 points at the break as the Pride led 40-21.

Hofstra lead grew to as many as 32 points early in the fourth period as a layup from junior Marianne Kalin made the score 62-30. The Pride defense clamped down throughout the contest as Iona shot just 36.5% from the field and was 0-14 from three-point range after the opening stanza.

Kalin posted 14 points for the Pride, while freshman Jakayla Brown added 11 and sophomore Jaylen Hines and Cuzic chipped in with 10. Junior E'Lexus Davis tallied six assists, while Hines led the Pride with six rebounds. Morgan Rachu led the Gaels with 16 points and six rebounds, while Tori Lesko added 14 points.
