Hempstead, NY - Junior
Laura Masciullo led four players in double figures with 14 kills as the Hofstra Volleyball team won its fifth straight match with a three-set sweep of UNCW on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
Hofstra, which got 13 kills from freshman
Aisha Skinner and 10 from senior
Doris Bogoje and sophomore
Ana Martinovic, improved to 21-7 overall and 11-3 with the victory. UNCW falls to 13-10 and 6-7 in CAA action with the loss. The Pride won by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-20.
It was another strong match for junior
Luisa Sydlik with 48 assists and 10 digs for her team-leading 14th double-double of the season.
The Pride dominated statistically as they posted 19 more kills than the Seahawks and 22 more digs, while hitting .293 for the match. Freshman
Maddie Appleton tallied a match-high 20 digs, while sophomore
Ivania Ortiz had 14 digs to assist in the defensive efforts. Maddy Kline posted seven kills and 10 digs for UNCW, while Madison Peters notched eight kills.
Hofstra will close a busy week with a 3 p.m. match on Sunday at home against Delaware.
NOTES
- Hofstra improved to 27-7 all-time against UNCW. The teams split the season series.
- The five-match win streak is Hofstra's second-longest of the season following a six-match streak from August 25-September 1.
- Today marked the eighth time this season that Appleton has reached the 20-dig plateau.
