Hempstead, NY - Freshman
Maddie Appleton had a season-high 32 digs, while junior
Laura Masciullo tallied a match-high 21 kills to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a five-set win over Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
The win was Hofstra's sixth straight and improves the Pride's record to 22-7 overall and 12-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Delaware falls to 9-17 and 3-11 with the loss. With two win streaks of at least six matches this season, it marks the first time since 2012 that Hofstra has had two win streak of at least six matches during the same season. Set scores in the contest were 19-25, 25-22, 25-15, 21-25 and 15-12.
Hofstra struggled early on in the match, hitting at just a .075 clip in the first set as Delaware was able to take an early lead in the match. The Pride would win the next two sets, as the offense got on track and hit nearly .300 in both sets. The Blue Hens would send the match to a fifth set, though, as they won the fourth stanza by four points. The Pride jumped all over the Blue Hens to start the final set as Masciullo had a pair of kills early on and Hofstra led 4-1 after a service ace from sophomore
Ivania Ortiz. The Pride would take a commanding 10-4 lead later in the set as Masciullo added another kill and would settle for the three-point win as a kill from senior
Nanishka Perez ended the match.
