NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior guard
Sica Cuzic netted at least 20 points for the second-straight contest, as the Hofstra University women's basketball team dropped the first contest of the Challenge in Music City to Wright State, 93-24.
Cuzic was just three points away from matching her career-high of 27 that was set nearly a week ago at St. Bonaventure, as she dropped 24 points on a 10-of-20 (.500) effort from the floor. In addition, Cuzic pulled down nine rebounds, just one shy of grabbing her third double double of the season. Senior
Boogie Brozoski added 16 points, the most since the Pride's season opener against Iona. Despite knocking down just four field goals (4-of-11), Brozoski shot 7-of-8 from the free throw line to add to her total. Rounding out the double digit scorers was junior
Ana Hernandez Gil who shot 33 percent from the field (3-of-9) while going 4-of-4 from the stripe.
In addition, junior
Marianne Kalin finished with eight points, two rebounds and a team-high three assists, while junior
E'Lexus Davis and junior
Sandra Karsten had two points each. Wright State finished with four players in double figure scoring, led by
Mackenzie Taylor who tallied 24. Cuzic and Taylor's 24 points tied for a Challenge in Music City record.
Hofstra out-shot Wright State 50 percent to 45 percent in the first quarter, but the Raiders gained the early edge, leading the Pride 24-17 through one quarter. Wright State increased that lead to 18 points (48-30) by the midway point, before Hofstra closed the gap to 13 behind a 20-25 quarter in favor of the Pride. The Raiders went on to dominate the final frame, putting the Chargers away with a 93-64 score.
Hofstra will continue action in the Challenge in Music City tomorrow, November 24 against Marist. Tip off at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium is slated for 3:30 pm EST, 2:30 CST. Live stats and Pride Productions audio will be available.
Notes:
-Cuzic was just one rebound shy of her third double double of the season. It was also the second-straight game Cuzic scored 20 or more points.
-Brozoski was 7-of-8 from the free throw line, with that one miss as her first of the season. Brozoski is now 17-of-18 from the free throw line this season.
