WBB: Cuzic Drops Career-High 27 Points in Hofstra's 67-59 Victory at St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. – Senior guard Sica Cuzic poured in a career-high 27 points as the Hofstra University women's basketball team defeated the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in a high-energy road contest at the Reilly Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Hofstra improves to 2-2 on the season while St. Bonaventure drops to 2-2 overall.

Cuzic led the Pride in multiple categories, as she shot 10-of-15 from the floor with a team-high 10 rebounds in the victory. The senior dropped 20 of her 27 points during the first half, helping the Pride charge out to a seven-point lead at the intermission. Finishing behind Cuzic was senior guard Boogie Brozoski, who recorded 12 points and three assists, while junior E'Lexus Davis and classmate Sandra Karsten each chipped in seven points. Junior Ana Hernandez Gil finished with six points, and junior Marianne Kalin and sophomore Jaylen Hines rounded out the scoring with four points. As a team, Hofstra shot a combined 42 percent from the floor with three of those periods checking in at a 50 percent clip or above.

Hofstra took command of the court early, outscoring the Bonnies in the first quarter, 23-18. Midway through the first stanza, Cuzic sparked a 12-4 Pride run that was capped off by a Karsten three-pointer for an 11-point Hofstra lead, the largest of the contest.

St. Bonaventure closed the gap and took the lead by three with a 12-2 run stretching from the end of the first frame into the end of the second. With just over a minute left in the third quarter, Hofstra netted three-straight points to send the game into the fourth quarter with the score knotted at 48.

The home team struck first in the final period, sinking a three-pointer to increase the score to 51-48 in favor of the Bonnies. After three more lead changes and one tie, Brozoski scored five-straight points as the Pride took the lead, 60-55 with 5:47 remaining and never looked back. St. Bonaventure was able to bring the score back within one, however Karsten and Cuzic each added a layup followed by three Pride free throws to propel Hofstra to the eight-point victory.
