Aisha Skinner posted 19 kills and 16 digs, but it was not enough as UNCW earned a narrow five-set victory over the Hofstra Volleyball team on Sunday afternoon at Cape Fear Academy. The 19 kills marked a new career-high for Skinner.
The loss ends a four-match win streak for Hofstra, which falls to 14-6 and 4-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. UNCW improved to 10-4 and 3-1 in league action. Set scores were 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 21-25 and 15-13 for the Seahawks.
Hofstra fell behind early in the opening set and would dig an early hole as the Seahawks won the first stanza by five points. The Pride would knot the match up at one as they won by an identical score of 25-20 in the second stanza, hitting nearly .300 in the set to tie the set score. Hofstra couldn't get on track offensively in the third set, managing nine kills with nine errors as they would fall behind in the match two sets to one. Needing a win in the fourth set to continue the contest, Hofstra slammed down 17 kills in the fourth stanza to send the contest to a decisive final set. The fifth set was a back-and-forth affair with Hofstra rallying from a 12-9 deficit to knot the match at 12 before UNCW earned the decision with a pair of late points.

Michela Rucli and
Doris Bogoje each had identical lines of 12 kills and three blocks while junior
Laura Masciullo posted 14 kills in the contest. Freshman
Maddie Appleton added 17 digs for the Pride. Maddy Kline had 17 kills and 10 digs for UNCW, while Kendall Bender posted seven kills and eight blocks.
Hofstra is back in action on Sunday, October 14 when it travels to Delaware for a 1 p.m. match.

- Hofstra is 26-7 all-time against UNCW.
- This was the second straight match that Skinner has posted a career-high in kills.
- Masciullo has reached double figures in kills in 13 straight matches.
