Aisha Skinner tallied a match-high 18 kills and fellow freshman
Maddie Appleton picked up a match-high 23 digs to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a huge four-set victory over Charleston on Friday evening at TD Arena.
The win improved Hofstra's record to 14-5 overall and 4-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Charleston fell to 13-6 and 4-1 in the league. The win was Hofstra's fourth straight. Hofstra won by set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 29-27 and 25-17.
Skinner was joined in double figures by junior
Laura Masciullo with 12 kills and
Ana Martinovic with 10 kills. Martinovic tallied her first double-double of the season with 11 digs in the contest.
The Pride fell behind early in the contest as Charleston won a tight first set by two points. Hofstra would even the match with a dominating performance in the second stanza. Both teams came to play in the third set with the teams alternating haymakers before Hofstra scored the final two points of the set, including a set-point kill from Masciullo. The final set was another convincing win by the Pride as Hofstra hit over .300 while holding the Cougars to a .114 attack percentage.
Senior
Michela Rucli had seven kills and eight blocks for the Pride, while senior
Doris Bogoje notched eight kills. Kennedy Madison led Charleston with 17 kills, while Devon Rachel had 13 kills and 13 digs.
Hofstra is back in action on Sunday when it faces UNCW at 12 p.m. That match will be played at Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington, North Carolina.
NOTES
- Hofstra is 6-9 all-time against Charleston. The win ended a three-match win streak in the series for the Cougars.
- Martinovic tied her career-high in kills and notched a season-high digs. She previously had 10 kills against Southeastern Louisiana on August 31, 2018 and had six digs on two separate occasions this season.
- Masciullo had double figure kills for the 12th consecutive match.
