VB: Pride Falls In Five Sets To Towson

Hempstead, NY - Freshman Aisha Skinner fell one kill shy of her season-high as she posted 19 kills to go along with nine digs, but Towson rallied to defeat the Hofstra Volleyball team in five sets on Friday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

The loss ended a streak of 14 straight wins for Hofstra when winning the first two sets of a match. The Pride falls to 16-7 overall and 6-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson improved to 10-12 and 5-4 in the league with the win. Set scores were 17-25, 16-25, 25-18, 25-23 and 15-8 in favor of the Tigers.

Hofstra got off to a roaring start in the match as the Pride hit .414 in the first set and followed that up with a .393 hitting percentage in the second stanza to go ahead 2-0 in the contest. The Tigers clamped down on defense once the third set began and would hold Hofstra to around a .100 attack percentage in each of the next three sets to rally back and capture the victory.

Senior Michela Rucli, who went over 500 career blocks in the match, had 15 kills, a .560 attack percentage and three blocks. Junior Luisa Sydlik posted her team-leading 10th double-double of the season with 46 assists and 11 digs. Jocelyn Kuilan had 13 kills for Towson, which also got 14 digs and six kills from Annie Ertz.

Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when it hosts James Madison at 1 p.m.

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 44-17 all-time against Towson.
- Rucli, who now has 502 career blocks,  is only the fourth player in program history to reach at least 500 blocks in their respective careers. She is the first since Jeanne Asper posted 532 from 1988-91.
- Skinner has tallied double figures in kills in five straight matches and freshman Maddie Appleton reached double figures in digs for the fifth straight match with 10.
