Ashunae Durant scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds, and
Boogie Brozoski chipped in with 10 points but Delaware picked up a 58-51 Colonial Athletic Association victory Friday night at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Fightin' Blue Hens outscored the Pride, 30-21, in the second half to extend their winning streak to three games.
Hofstra (8-8, 3-2 CAA) led 17-11 after the first quarter behind six points each from
Olivia Askin and
Marianne Kalin. The Pride closed out the period on a 6-0 run capped by a coast-to-coast layup from Brozoski with 15 seconds to go. The Fightin' Blue Hens (10-5, 3-1 CAA) would cut the lead to three, 21-18, 3:57 into the second quarter on a Bailey Kargo three-pointer. But Hofstra used a 7-2 run to go back up by eight, 28-20, with 2:11 to play on a layup from
E'Lexus Davis. The Blue Hens responded by closing out the half on a 7-2 run of their own as Hofstra settled for a 30-27 advantage at the break.
Delaware took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Pride by a 17-9 margin. The Blue Hens scored the first four points of the third quarter to take the lead for the first time since the first quarter, 31-30. An offensive rebound and put back by Durant gave Hofstra the lead back, 32-31 with 7:45 to play before Nicole Enabosi's free throw tied the score at 32 nearly a minute later. After Delaware went up by three, 35-32, Brozoski tied the score with a three-pointer from the right wing with 4:46 to play in the quarter. Delaware would then score seven unanswered points to a 42-35 lead with 2:32 to play in the third. Hofstra would cut into the deficit with four straight points including a three-pointer from
Sandra Karsten. But Delaware took a 44-39 lead at the end of three quarters.
Kiersten West opened up the fourth quarter with a four-point play to extend Delaware's lead to 48-39. Brozoski answered with a layup and a free throw to bring Hofstra back within six, 48-42, with 7:28 to go. Enabosi converted three free throws over the next two minutes to push the Delaware lead back to nine, 51-42, with 5:37 to play. The Pride would get to within five, 53-48, following a pair of Davis free throws with 2:18 on the clock and then cut the deficit to four, 55-51, following three free throws from Durant in a 28 second span with the last one coming with 41 seconds remaining. But that was as close as the Pride would get as they saw their two-game win streak come to an end.
Enabosi was the only Delaware player in double figures with 12 points. She also added a game-high 15 rebounds. Samone DeFreese added seven points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
