MBB: Hofstra Wins It At The Buzzer

Towson, MD - Junior Justin Wright-Foreman poured in 35 points and freshman Jalen Ray drained the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer as the Hofstra Men's Basketball team rallied from 10-point deficit to capture a thrilling 76-73 win over Towson on Thursday evening at SECU Arena.

For Ray it was his second game-winning shot of the season as he sank a three-pointer with two seconds left to give the Pride an 85-84 win over Monmouth back on December 6.

Hofstra improves to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play as the Pride has won three of its last four games. Towson falls to 12-6 and 2-3 in conference play. The Hofstra win ended Towson's 14-game home court win streak, which ranked as the ninth-longest in the nation.

A three-pointer from sophomore Stafford Trueheart with 2:12 remaining gave Hofstra its largest lead of the first half at 38-33, but Towson would own the remainder of the stanza and scored the final 10 points of the half to lead 43-38 at the break. The Tigers extended the lead to seven on a pair of occasions early on in the second half before a 7-2 Pride run, including five points from Wright-Foreman, closed the gap to 49-47 with 16 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Pride rallied from 10 down (67-57) with 5:22 left in the second half as senior Rokas Gustys started a 10-0 run with a layup. That was followed by a layup and a three-pointer from Wright Foreman that made it a 67-64 game with 2:45 to go. Trueheart would tie the game at 67 with a three-pointer of his own with 1:53 remaining. It was the 10th tie score of the game. The Pride would take a 70-69 lead on a traditional three-point play from Wright-Foreman with 1:19 to go before Zane Martin's jumper gave the Tigers a 71-70 lead with 1:03 to go. Towson would go up three, 73-70, with 26 ticks on the clock with a pair of free throws, but Wright-Foreman knocked down a top of the key three-pointer to tie the score for the 12th time of the night with 20 seconds left. Towson would miss a three-pointer with six seconds remaining, setting up the win for Hofstra. Graduate student Hunter Sabety grabbed the rebound and threw an outlet pass to Wright-Foreman, who found Ray open for the winning shot at the buzzer.

Gustys finished with 10 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Eli Pemberton tallied 12 points. Trueheart added nine points and had a team-high seven rebounds. Sabety grabbed six rebounds. Ray's winning shot gave him six points on the night.

The Tigers were led by Justin Gorham's 20 points. Martin added 17 points, while Eddie Keith II had 10 points and five assists.

Hofstra will continue the road trip on Saturday when it heads to Philadelphia to take on Drexel at 4 p.m.
