Matthew Vowinkel scored his first career goal in the 76th minute to equalize as Hofstra played Northeastern to a 1-1 draw in Colonial Athletic Association play on Wednesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride (1-3-5, 0-0-3 CAA) has played to ties in five of its past six games, including three straight to open conference play. Northeastern (2-5-2, 1-1-1 CAA) has also seen five of its contests go to overtime.
Harry Swartz opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a pinball play in the Hofstra box. Facing a 1-0 deficit in the second half, the Hofstra offense pressed, firing 11 shots in the second frame, including five in a one-minute span midway through.
Vowinkel finally broke through, one-touching in a cross from senior
Danny Elliott.
The Pride piled on seven more shots across the two overtime periods, including one from Elliott in the final minute that curled just wide.
Hofstra is back in action on Saturday, heading to James Madison for a 7 p.m. contest.
