Hempstead, NY – Senior Cary Swan recorded 12 saves and four different Pride players scored goals as Hofstra defeated the Pioneers of Sacred Heart, 4-1 in a non-conference contest at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday.

Swan equaled her season-high with 12 stops on the day as she faced 21 shots by the Pioneers. The Pride tallied three unanswered first half goals on the way to a 3-1 lead at the break. Junior Madison Suave opened the scoring at the 13:10 mark, taking a pass from freshman Philine de Wolf and beating SHU keeper Emily Degennaro (3 saves). Six minutes later freshman Jordan Thompson deflected classmates Frankie O'Brien's pass near the goalmouth for her first collegiate goal and a 2-0 lead.

O'Brien would give the Pride a 3-0 advantage on a penalty stroke at the 29:06 mark. Sacred Heart got on the board just 41 seconds before halftime on a penalty stroke goal by Nichole Tolli.

Hofstra freshman Taylor Casamassa added an insurance goal, the first tally of her collegiate career, at the 55:01 mark.
