Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Men's Soccer team played Elon to a 1-1 draw in its first Colonial Athletic Association contest of the season Saturday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride (1-3-3, 0-0-1 CAA) has played to ties in three of its past four games. The Phoenix (3-0-3, 0-0-1) remains unbeaten on the season, and opened the scoring, with Ronni Mleczkovicz sending a free kick into the upper corner in the 26th minute. Hofstra was quick to respond, with senior
Danny Elliott picking up a loose ball after Elon keeper Matthew Jegier misplayed it and firing into an empty net for his second goal of the season.
Sophomore
Oscar Ramsay had a chance to win it for Hofstra in double overtime. Classmate
Luke Brown took a shot that Jegier parried away, but the rebound landed right at Ramsay's feet with Jegier still sprawled out. Jegier managed to get a hand on Ramsay's try and preserve the tie.
The Pride is back in action on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Columbia at 7 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
