FH: Sauve Scores Twice To Lead Hofstra Over Siena

Hempstead, NY – Junior Madison Sauve scored twice and freshman Philine de Wolf scored the game-winning goal for the second consecutive game as the Hofstra Pride defeated the Siena Saints in a non-conference field hockey game at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Pride, who defeated the Saints for the 13th consecutive time without a loss in the series, improve to 2-1 on the season. Siena dropped to 0-3 on the year.

Sauve opened the scoring just 8:50 into the contest with her second goal of the year off a pass from freshman Frankie O'Brien following a penalty corner. But the Saints tied the game two minutes into the second half as Brianna Muniz tallied and unassisted tally for her first goal of the year.

De Wolf gave the Pride the lead for good with her second goal of the season off a centering pass from classmate Hannah Zemaitis in the 39th minute. Sauve gave Hofstra a two-goal cushion in the 56th minute and was the beneficiary of great work by graduate-student Marloes Schavemaker to boost the lead to 3-1. Hofstra would need that goal as Siena's Molly Hagan scored an unassisted goal of the pads of Pride senior goalie Carys Swan (2 saves) with 2:54 to play in the contest.

Hofstra now heads out for two road games this weekend, traveling to Fairfield for a 1 p.m. game on Friday and New Hampshire for an 11 a.m. game on Sunday.

Notes:
- Hofstra outshot Siena, 25-6 in the game including 12-0 in the first half
- The Pride had a season-high 10 penalty corners against the Saints, who were given three
- Madison Sauve equaled her career-high with five shots in the contest
- Philine de Wolf recorded an individual and team high for 2017 with six shots
- Siena goalie Mary Crumlish recorded the most saves (14) by an opposing goalie since Towson's Emilee Woodall made 15 saves in 2016
