College Park, Md. – The Hofstra Men's Soccer team dropped a road contest, 2-0, to Maryland on Monday night at Ludwig Field.
The Pride (1-1) faced an early deficit as the Terrapins (2-0) got on the board in just the fourth minute on an own goal. Maryland doubled its lead in the 58th minute on a Gordon Wild free kick from about 25 yards out. Wild curled the kick around the wall of defenders into the back of the net.
Hofstra put the pressure on for the remainder of the game, pressuring the Terps defense in the latter part of the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net. Sophomore
Adam Savill had arguably the Pride's best chance of the night, sending a shot just over the crossbar late in the second half. Junior goalkeeper
Alex Ashton made five saves for the second straight game, including a diving save to his right in the first half and a punch up over the crossbar in the second.
Hofstra continues its tough season-opening road trip on Thursday, heading to No. 13 Virginia for a 6 p.m. contest.
