Charlottesville, Va. – No. 12 Virginia scored twice in each half to record a 4-0 victory over the Hofstra Pride at Klockner Stadium Thursday night.
Hofstra, which dropped its second consecutive contest, falls to 1-2 on the season while Virginia improves to 2-0 on the year.
The Cavaliers opened the scoring at the 9:48 mark on Pablo Aguilar's first goal of the year off a free kick. Less than four minutes before halftime, Edward Opoku scored on a cross from Julian Cummings to boost the lead to 2-0. Daniel Barir and Cummings added second half goals for the Cavaliers in the first nine minutes of the second half to wrap up the scoring. Jeff Caldwell made three saves to record the shutout.
Hofstra was outshot in the contest, 12-10 with seven of the Pride's shots coming in the second half.
The Pride will return to action on Tuesday, September 5 when Hofstra wraps up its four-game road trip at local rival, St. John's at 7:30 p.m.
